Synopsis:
Manufacturers of performance-engineered metal products, for example: bars and billets; welded pipes; and rail components, require high-speed and high-reliability automated inspection to meet their production targets. The end-users of these metal products in safety-critical industries demand the maximum sensitivity and coverage to ensure the highest quality and safe operation in service. In this seminar, the utilisation of advanced automated NDT techniques to meet these competing demands will be discussed.
In particular, there will be a focus on the use of ultrasonic phased array probes and advanced electronics to perform high-speed and high-sensitivity inspections. The basics of phased array technology will be presented, along with the benefits and limitations. In addition, an overview of eddy current arrays for the detection of surface-breaking defects will be discussed.
It will show how these advanced NDT methods can be utilised in automated systems for a wide range of inspection applications including: wind turbines, aerospace, automotive, rail, and oil & gas.
Finally, the seminar will end with a demonstration of the latest software that can significantly improve inspection set-up and collection speeds, and automate the analysis of inspection data. This includes the latest Total Focusing Method (TFM) technology.
